After making landfall along the Gulf Coast of Florida, Hurricane Helene struck northeast Georgia and western North Carolina. All commodities in the region have been affected, including pecan orchards and timber land, but also corn, soybeans, cotton and poultry.  Given the location, hog production has not been as impacted as in past hurricanes that struck eastern North Carolina. In Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp reported over the weekend that 107 poultry farms in the state had been either severely damaged or completely destroyed.
