Increased Corn Area; Prices Stable but High The 2017/18 rabi (summer crop) corn area, which will be harvested in March-April 2018, totaled 1.5739 million hectares as of 19 January. While that is marginally higher than the 1.535 million hectares of a year ago, it is slightly lower than the seaon’s normal 1.5797 million hectares. The area was reduced in the states of Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra, but it was increased in Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. On behalf of a Canadian oilseed processer WPI's team provided market analysis, econometric modeling and financial due diligence in support of a $24 million-dollar investment in a Ukrainian crush plant. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment. WPI has conducted parallel work on behalf of U.S., South American and European clients, both private and public, in the agri-food space.
