Irrigation Infrastructure and New Technology Can Help Agriculture India has approximately 140 million hectares of net cultivated area (the gross area of 190 million hectares takes into account the fact that at least 50 million hectares are sown twice). Of that amount, about 76.77 million hectares of the net sown area are under rain-fed (un-irrigated) conditions.
