In a situation where milk demand is increasing by 10-11 percent and production by 3 percent, India may not be able to fulfill its needs in 2021 without drastic measures and could become a net importer of milk within the next few years. Corn and Soymeal Exports Will Not Meet Expectations India has been a successful exporter of soymeal (SBM) in the past, and the volume increased over the last few years from 2.114 MMT in 2009/10 to 3.838 MMT in 2010/11 and 3.439 MMT in 2012/13. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
