Higher Sugar Production Keeping Prices Low India’s sugar production could reach 31.5 MMT, according to the Indian Sugar Manufacturers Association (ISMA). The mills in Uttar Pradesh are still crushing sugarcane and may continue to do so until the end of the month. The higher-than-normal production is keeping prices much lower, and the industry is suffering as a result. Sugar prices in the spot market (Kolhapur) dropped to a low of $377/MT, and the mill gate price in northern Uttar Pradesh was $378-389/MT.
