Innovate, Replicate or Regulate; Trade Policy Bias

Innovate, Replicate or Regulate U.S. Big Tech companies should take a lesson from their Big Ag counterparts – Europe is not your friend. Looking at artificial intelligence, EU Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager says the "The choice should not be American or American.” Yet the goal of Europe’s food sovereignty campaigns is that the only food should be European. The EU is falling behind on tech once again with AI investments in the U.S. four times larger than in the EU. The cause is not anti-competitiveness by American companies as Vestager charges, but over-regulation by Brussels. EU officials announced bans on some forms of AI, and regulations on other types. From WPI Consulting

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
