Lake Geneva Switzerland officially notified the WTO today that it will formally agree to the agreement on fisheries subsidies. WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala immediately pronounced that Switzerland’s acceptance will spur “real momentum” toward widespread adoption. The fisheries agreement addresses ocean sustainability. Switzerland is a land-locked mountainous country. By widespread, Okonjo-Iweala must mean she is now expecting adoption by Austria, the Central African Republic, Paraguay, Laos and other land-locked nations. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
