Lame Duck: Did Obama Set Precedent in 2010?

Congress is back in session today after a brief campaign recess (even though the campaigns weren't so brief). One of the first orders of business is the permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) status with Russia. Regarding this topic, this evening the House Rules Committee is expected to take up a rule for floor consideration. Since this is a trade issue that has to do with trade status, and thus tariffs and duties, it is considered to be a revenue bill and must first pass the House. The Senate Finance Committee already unanimously passed the measure in July. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
