Kansas has announced that it will oversee the breeding of Lesser Prairie Chickens (LPCs) for release into habitat. Although the concept in relation to these birds has been panned, fairly or unfairly, it has been proven effective with Zimbabwean elephants.In 2013 there was a U.S. population of about 17,000 Lesser Prairie Chickens (LPC), a type of wild grouse. That is down 84 percent over the past 15 years, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and a 50 percent decline in the last year.
