The July Cattle Inventory report showed a reduction in both beef and dairy cows by 2 percent and 1 percent respectively but adding in the last “normal” year of 2019 shows a trend of beef cow liquidation against an increasing dairy herd.
The above is interesting when combined with the trend of beef on dairy breeding. Note that this year, according to the National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB), dairy semen sales are down 7 percent year-over-year, and at a 17-year low.
