Last week, WPI reported on the ongoing fertility problems in the broiler breeding flock which is costly to the vertically integrated broiler sector that operates on a just-in-time inventory model. As of last week, egg sets were up 0.3 percent and chicks places were down 0.4 from last year, but with higher weights, broiler production was up over last year. As noted in last week’s Livestock Roundup, Tyson Foods, the largest broiler producer announced that it was transitioning out of “never ever” antibiotic chicken production to improve efficiency.
