The monthly Cattle on Feed report will be released tomorrow. Analysts’ pre-report consensus estimates are for the total inventory on feed to be 100 percent of last year’s 11.9 million head, at a range of estimates between 99.5 percent and 101.3 percent of 1 November 2023. This would be 11.6 million head, which is above the 1 November 2019-2023 five-year average of 11.534. That is a strong rebound from the beginning of the year which saw the cattle inventory at 87.2 million head, at 98 percent of 2023.  The cattle herd entering 2024 was the smallest since 1951.
