For the past few weeks, hot weather has impacted feeder cattle sales to feedlots; that’s something that is likely to show up in the Cattle on Feed report later this month. The heat, and in some places humidity, adds risk to transporting cattle, as well as the performance of cattle on feed. There have been reports of sale barns cancelling sales due to the heat, which likely is postponing placing cattle on feed. And as we have reported previously, placements in the first half of the year – especially between March and June – have been higher than expected, creating a bow wave for the supply of feed cattle moving forward.
