After yesterday's strong market, trade in soybeans and corn was rather noncommittal during the overnight session. Outside factors did not help grain and soy markets hang on to yesterday's gains either. General Comments USDA's 2015 Agricultural Outlook Forum gets underway Thursday, 19 February. The focus is on "Smart Agriculture in the 21st Century" with discussions on innovation, biotechnology and big data. As usual, the first morning's presentations include one on the outlook for U.S. agriculture and foreign trade for 2015, which will be given this year by USDA's Acting Chief Economist Robert Johansson. Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
