After having announced them earlier, the Trump administration late Tuesday apparently decided not to impose special restrictions on Chinese investments in/access to U.S. technology in the name of national security. Rather, it will rely on the limits and restrictions already in place that apply to all countries. This might be intended as a gesture to encourage China to re-engage in trade negotiations before the scheduled tariffs become effective on 6 July, or it may just be another example of the skirmishes within the administration between trade doves and hawks with the former winning this one.
