The Crop Progress report initially appeared supportive for the major markets with planting slowing for corn and soybeans and corn and spring wheat conditions coming in below expectations. Of those factors, only the spring wheat issue proved consequential enough to support futures, and corn and the soy complex pushed lower. The reason for the soy complex weakness was primarily a pullback in soyoil futures, but also generally favorable planting and emergence progress and a beneficial weather outlook. On behalf of a Canadian oilseed processer WPI's team provided market analysis, econometric modeling and financial due diligence in support of a $24 million-dollar investment in a Ukrainian crush plant. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment. WPI has conducted parallel work on behalf of U.S., South American and European clients, both private and public, in the agri-food space.
