Happy New Year! Corn and wheat were steady overnight with soybeans 5-6 cents higher. The overnight soy complex optimism was the result of weekend tweets by President Trump that expressed great hopefulness over the China-U.S. trade talks. The trade talk optimism was apparently based on a phone call between President Trump and President Xi. U.S. trade officials will be in Beijing next week for face-to-face negotiations and that meeting in Beijing is to be followed by a return visit to Washington. On behalf of a Canadian oilseed processer WPI's team provided market analysis, econometric modeling and financial due diligence in support of a $24 million-dollar investment in a Ukrainian crush plant. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment. WPI has conducted parallel work on behalf of U.S., South American and European clients, both private and public, in the agri-food space.
