Mercosur Regional Analysis

Soybeans Brazil Brazil’s soybean market was stable last week with some movement in February and March shipments, which is where Chinese demand is showing up. There was also some interest for April onward, but the market is not that active for deferred positions. February traded at 157 and 158H CNF China, while March traded at 153 and 154H CNF China. In the meantime, April and May were offered at 143K and 148K, respectively. Farmer selling was estimated at around 38 percent by the end of last week, and there is no significant delay as there was last year. Brazil is receiving good rains that are providing the chance for another record-high production, and some speculate that it could reach 115 MMT versus 113 MMT in the last campaign...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
