The accumulated volume exported since the beginning of the campaign (starting in March 2020) reached 16.3 MMT -11 percent above the prior year while the value of corn exports increased just 8 percent due to lower FOB prices. The past campaign ended with total exports of 37.2 MMT and WPI expects this year’s exports to be the same or slightly higher. Our view is that the extremely big vessel line ups to date might be compensated by smaller shipments later in the crop year. As WPI has mentioned frequently this spring, Argentina’s Upriver draft has been very low, forcing vessels to load smaller than e...
Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
