Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Iraq’s 2026 wheat imports are seen increasing by about 8.3 percent to 2.4 million MT, according to the FAO, as a result of the 16 percent lower 2025 wheat crop — down to 4.4 MMT in 2025 from 5.2 MMT in 2024. Planting for the 2026 wheat and barley crops was delayed due to a lack of rainfall, but the situation has improved with good rainfall in January and February. Syria has seen damage to grain facilities near a U.S. military base caused by a drone attack.
Israel is also expected to import 290,000 MT of feed barley in 2026/27.
