Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA/AFRICA – MEA REGION Sri Lanka’s Minister of Trade says there is no reason for wheat flour prices to increase as the local supply is good and more milling wheat is expected from Dubai and Turkey. Sri Lanka is forecast, by USDA-FAS, to have to import 1.3 MMT of wheat in 2022/23, an increase of 270,000MT. No wheat is produced in Sri Lanka. Wheat is used for both food and for animal feed. The USDA report says that there is a surplus of wheat milling capacity, even though there are only two wheat millers, and that some of the wheat flour production is exported to Asian destinations.
