The FAO reports that Iraq’s 2019 grain crops should be up nearly 67 percent over 2018 with wheat showing the largest increase from 2.2 MMT to 4 MMT. Total grain production of 5.1 MMT will be about 18 percent above the five-year average of 4.3 MMT. However, the low production in 2018 means that grain imports in early 2019 will be 25 percent higher than the five-year average at approximately 5.2 MMT, including 3.7 MMT of wheat and 1.2 MMT of rice. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
