Due to difficulties there, production has dropped from 4 MMT per year to less than 1.8 MMT, and the government needs at least 1.5 MMT to cover its wheat flour needs for wheat flour for subsidized bread. In the recent past, Syria had announced a three-year agreement was in the works with Russia for the supply of 3 MMT, but little information has been released regarding this arrangement. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
