Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA Pakistan sees a wheat cargo of 59,700 MT arrive with another 58,000 MT to arrive this week. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is “under directives” to import 2.3MMT of wheat this year and has imported 338,000 MT prior to the current vessels. Pakistan is expected to import 3 MMT of wheat this 2021/22 year. Pakistan will supply 50,000 MT of wheat to the World Food Program – 10,000 MT as a donation and 40,000 as a sale – for use in Afghanistan. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
