There has been market chatter this week that yields in parts of Oklahoma were better than expected, and that could mean USDA will increase hard red winter wheat production in next week’s WASDE and production estimates. We have a few cautionary remarks. First, abandonment will be much greater than originally forecast. This means the fields actually harvested will have better yields because they are the best of a very bad crop. Fewer harvested acres will more than offset a few bushels per acre in better-than-expected yields.
