The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), along with 25 state associations, sent a letter on 1 August to USTR Jamieson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins complaining about “the calamitous environment for farmers who are trying to plan for harvest and next season” due to trade uncertainty. The letter argues that rising input prices and dropping corn prices are squeezing margins. As the letter notes, the 2025 forecast shows fertilizer costs are 36 percent of corn’s cost of production.
