China’s U.S. Soybean Purchases Apparently Headed for National Reserve Reports out of China indicate Sinograin and COFCO intend to import the remainder of the 13-14 MMT of U.S. soybeans they have purchased and put those stocks in the national reserve. Thus far, 6.884 MMT of that total have been shipped, which leaves approximately 6.67 MMT left to be exported by the end of MY 2018/19.  Traders indicate it would cost the two SOEs a great deal of money to cancel the purchases, and China will ultimately need the soybeans for use by the country’s crushers.
