Russia’s Growing Soybean Demand, Production and Imports For the past several years, Russia has been working aggressively to expand its domestic production of animal protein to reduce its reliance on imports. That effort has been very successful as USDA estimates its pork and chicken meat production will reach 3.05 MMT and 4 MMT, respectively, in 2018 versus 2.707 MMT and 2.31 MMT, respectively, in 2010. While the increased production has caused a significant decrease in imports, it has also resulted in domestic pork and chicken meat consumption rising 11.5 percent and 38.7 percent, respectively, since 2010. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
