Oilseed Highlights: Soy Export Sales; Argentine Export Taxes; Russia Oilseeds; Argentine Soy

Disappointing U.S. Soy Export Sales Last Week Today’s USDA export sales report indicated the week ending 20 February was not a positive one for exporters of U.S. soybeans, soymeal and soyoil. The most positive note was a relatively small sales of U.S. soybeans to China. Net soybean export sales for shipment in 2019/20 totaled only 339,300 MT. Sales for shipment in 2020/21 totaled 22,100 MT. The top sales for shipment in 2029/20 were for Japan (108,200 MT), China (71,700 MT), Costa Rica (69,500 MT), Germany (66,000 MT) and South Korea (58,400 MT). The sales and others were partially offset by reductions in sales to unknown destinations of 176,400 MT. The sales for shipment in 2020/21 were to Mexico (21,000 MT) and Japan (1,100 MT). S...

Illuminating the value of technical research

On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
