Oilseed Highlights: WASDE; EU to Face Retaliation; Maple Leaf Foods;, French Rapeseed

Relatively Few Significant Changes to Soy Sector in WASDE USDA made very few changes to its supply and distribution tables for the soy sector in the April WASDE, but among the few significant revisions to its estimates were the following: - Brazil’s 2018 soybean crop was raised from 120.07 MMT to 122 MMT, which helps explain how it was able to boost its exports by 15.39 MMT from MY 2017/18 to 84.199 MMT in MY 2018/19. - Brazil’s 2019 soybean crop was increased from 116.5 MMT to 117 MMT, just slightly higher than most estimates emanating from there. Late season weather was good, and the crop was better than earlier expected. - U.S. soybean ending stocks on 31 August 2019 were reduced by 5 million bushels to 895 million bushel...

From WPI Consulting

Illuminating the value of technical research

On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
