Competition for shares of world corn trade has been stout, and the U.S. share of that trade has declined. China’s 25 percent tariff on imports of U.S. soybeans imposed in July 2018 cut sharply into U.S. soybean exports as Chinese buyers shifted their demand to Brazil and Argentina.
