Two years ago last month, we posed the question, Does Hemp Have a Role in Livestock Feed?  Montana’s response to that question is, “yes.”   A new statute authorizing hemp-based feeds was signed into law this week in Montana; the authorization is dependent on approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine. Specifically, the Montana law:

Clarifies that hempseed food ingredients and hemp-derived products are included in the definition of commercial feed.

Includes feed used for livestock, contingent upon FDA-DVM’s approval of hemp as an approved additive or defined ingredient in animal feed for livestock.
