The combined release of USDA’s final yield/production estimates for the U.S. corn and soybean crops, the updated supply/demand estimates in the January WASDE, the 1 December quarterly stocks reports, and the initial estimate of U.S. winter acreage on the same day each January make that day quite important for grain and soy markets. The number of different reports increases the numerical chances for a market-moving surprise, and a sharp futures market price reaction has been invoked on occasion.
