Sub-Saharan Africa is very diverse and defies a singular stereotype. Income ranges from the Seychelles off the eastern coast at nearly $30,000 per capita, to Burundi at less than $800/person. GDP for the region has been growing by just 0.74 percent/year but population has been expanding at 2.44 percent. Both factors support increased meat consumption, but data collection is inadequate, and the informal consumption of bush meat is widespread. The consumption of lower cost poultry meat has been growing fastest, with pork second despite 30 percent of the population being Muslim. Only South Africa and Angola report pork consumption. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments. On behalf of numerous clients, WPI has not only assisted in identifying strategic paths but also advised their implementation.
