Spinning Trade Mitigation Funds USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue originally said he would decide on a trade war bailout package around Labor Day (3 September), but it was announced today (see Trade Mitigation Funds). The announcement was likely moved up due to rising political opposition to the war and to smooth a planned visit by President Trump to Iowa this Thursday. The fact that agriculture is singled out for compensation and not other industries reflects in part both the targeting of the sector for retaliation by trading partners and the political significance of rural America to this president.
