Tariffs were a hot topic in last night’s debate between the two U.S. presidential candidates. Trump first imposed tariffs, which Harris calls a sales tax, but her Administration keep most of them and she has not ruled out using them again. Trump added to his pro-tariff position by saying he would impose 100 percent tariffs on countries that leave the dollar, which is contradictory since at one point he said he wanted to devalue the dollar. Now members of Congress from both parties are pushing for an end to the de minimis exemption from import duties.
