Last week was the lowest price for gasoline the week before Thanksgiving since 2015.   Ethanol prices were up from 2018 and 2017, but the average inventories for the first three weeks of November were also down 3.5 percent from 2019, 11.9 percent from 2018, and 5 percent from 2017. They were higher than in 2016 and 2015. In mid-October, the American Automobile Association (AAA) projected 50 million travelers for Thanksgiving, but with the new restrictions in November, that forecast dropped to 47.8...

From WPI Consulting

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
