The Supreme Court will decide by early April whether it will hear a case challenging California’s Proposition 12 animal welfare law which prohibits the sale in California of certain poultry, pork, and veal products derived from animals not raised in accordance with new space requirements, or as the statute says, “in a cruel manner.”  This includes products produced outside the state. While this passed by referendum in 2018, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) didn’t release “draft” proposed rules until July 2020, and the final regulations are still not in place.
