It took a record 15 rounds of votes on the House floor to elect Representative Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House after mid-night on Friday. One impact of the drawn-out vote for Speaker was that the first farm bill field hearing, originally scheduled for Saturday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was delayed. Incoming House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn Thompson (R-Pennsylvania) announced Sunday that the event has been re-scheduled for Friday, 13 January.
