Trade Deadline Extended, Threats Sharpened President Trump announced that the 9 July deadline for trade agreements with the U.S. to avoid reciprocal tariffs will be extended to 1 August. Eighteen countries are being targeted for trade negotiations, and a smaller subset received letters today on the extension and the general demand for concessions.  The EU is pushing for an agreement yet this week despite the extension, perhaps seeing more favorable terms for those being less difficult. Japan has been called “difficult” and the threatened reciprocal tariff was raised slightly.
