The U.S. was joined by Canada, the UK and Australia in condemning China’s accession of Hong Kong, but not the EU. President Trump charged Beijing with violating its treaty commitment to an autonomous Hong Kong until 2047. He announced punitive measures, including the start of a process of removing Hong Kong’s special policy exemptions that will treat it the same as China.
