U.S.-Japan Prospects; Hope Needed by the Masses; New Food, New Problems

U.S.-Japan Prospects Donald Trump is reviled for his efforts at brinksmanship. He is called a fascist and a bully. The approach is fairly common but more deftly exercised using silk gloves. Thus, the EU’s Michel Barnier can successfully tell the Brits that it is the deal being offered or a hard Brexit and nothing in between. Fortunately, experts believe Tokyo and Washington have a mutual interest in attaining a trade agreement. President Trump needs a deal to successfully argue that he is helping American workers and achieving a more fair-trade balance. Prime Minister Abe needs a strong alliance with the U.S. due to the geopolitical risks surrounding his country. This indicates the likelihood that some progress will be made between t...

From WPI Consulting

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
