Two important factors that have limited U.S. wheat exports in 2014/15 have been large wheat supplies held by competing origins and the effect of the historically strong U.S. dollar.Today's weekly export sales report from USDA/FAS for the week ending 26 February shows net wheat sales for 2014/15 of 469,600 MT (17.3 million bushels). This brings total export commitments (shipments plus open sales) for 2014/15 to 21.809 MMT (801.3 million bushels). That is 89 percent of the total U.S. wheat export volume of 900 million bushels (24.5 MMT) projected by USDA for 2014/15, which is a meager goal and over 3 MMT less than the average of the last five years.
