In some manner every annual crop cycle is different from its predecessors even if those differences are small enough to fade from memory over time. However, the 2020/21 crop cycle has already clocked enough differences compared to the recent past to suggest it may become a more memorable one. This is hinted at by looking at CME futures prices. CME SRW futures are trading roughly about $0.50 higher than a year ago. Soybean futures prices are running about $0.80 higher than during October 2019. Soyoil futures prices are up a sharp 270 points or so (2.7 cents/lb.) from a year ago. Corn futures are the only market not showing a big jump over last year. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
