Brazil’s Election Results and Where Ag Trade Policy May Go

Election fever is at high pitch in the U.S. with the Congressional mid-terms just one week from tomorrow. At stake is a likely change in party control of the House of Representatives and potentially the Senate. This comes as the farm bill will be on the docket in 2023.  But in Brazil, the Presidential election happened yesterday. Former president Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva defeated incumbent Jair Bolsonaro 50.9 percent to 49.1 percent. This was a run-off election among the top two vote getters in the initial round of voting where no candidate got 50 percent of the vote. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
