USDA released its monthly Cattle on Feed report today; the inventory of cattle and calves on feed on feedlots with 1,000 head capacity or more on 1 May was 11.6 million, or 97 percent of May 2022, in line with expectations. Last month the consensus pre-report estimate was placements would drop to 95 percent of last year, but actual placements were 99 percent of the prior year.
