It was a big day for livestock market reports from USDA with the monthly Cattle on Feed report and the quarterly Hogs and Pigs report, both at the closing hours of the day before the Christmas holiday break. Below is a look at cattle on feed, and a summary of the hogs and pigs report – with more analysis on the hog and pork sector coming next week. The cattle report brought more bearish news, the total inventory of cattle on feed in feedlots of 1,000 head or more capacity grew to 12 million head. This was the third month in a row with larger on feed inventories than a year ago during the 2022 drought induced liquidation.
