European Market Analysis

Regional News  Drought in Europe is becoming increasingly concerning with projections for EU wheat yields deteriorating. Areas of western Europe and the Baltics have received as much as 50 mm of rain less than normal by this date with the drought affecting a wide swath of Europe from Spain and the UK through France, Germany, Italy, and Poland. Late Sunday, rains fell across parts of France but volumes were light and more is needed. The one-week forecast offers meaningful precipitation for far eastern France and southwest Germany, but other areas remain dry.

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
