Farmers Turning Toward Larger Banks

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has recently reported on an interesting trend in agriculture lending: the market share of agricultural loans shifted more toward large commercial banks in the second quarter. According to national survey data from the second week of May, the share of non-real estate loans originated by large banks relative to their smaller counterparts jumped to the highest level in nearly 20 years.  Loans originated with large banks are near record highs and conversely loans originated with smaller banks are at near record lows.Driving this move is the rising costs of production including feed, seed and fertilizer. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
