WPI readers will not be shocked to hear that the updated weather forecasts, which include more rain for the Midwest, were the primary force driving CBOT futures lower on Tuesday. Tuesday saw scattered showers over the Northern Plains and parts of Kansas and Oklahoma while a larger system brought rains to Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and the East Coast. Illinois and Iowa continue to miss out on the rains, but the 1-3-day forecast offers widespread showers of 0.5” or more for nearly the entire Midwest. Such volumes won’t eliminate the drought but will likely go a long way in reducing crop stress and helping aid development.
